Somme Woods

Simple mile loop trail through wildflower prairie. It’s tricky to find- go to the end of the parking lot and you will see a box that used to hold paper maps but also has a qr code to scan so you can see the map on your phone.

Seemed nice from what I saw. Driving Uber and just stopped to use Porta Pottie. LOL

My dog and I had an amazing time exploring Somme Woods after the large snowfall this winter. I was impressed that the snow had been stamped down along the trails such that I was able to hike without being completely engulfed. We weren't able to see every corner of these woods, which makes this a five star park, imo. :) Small streams and tiny footbridges add charm to this precious plot of land.

I loved this small forest (part of a larger preserve), especially its narrow, almost faint hiking path. So different from wide, well-paved paths in some preserves. Workers were doing a controlled burn, so I wasn't able to explore the whole woods. It has extensive wetlands. I'm looking forward to returning in other seasons.

We went on a warm day in early spring. It was fun, nice and muddy :) I'd say it's not usually muddy, but it did rain several times this week.
