Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church

We have been members here since our kids were small. All three were confirmed here, involved as teens, and all were married by Pastor Jon! They have all brought their spouses here, and the two with kids had them baptized here. In my book, that speaks volumes!!

This church family is welcoming and warm. There really is something for everyone... from summer programs and Christian learning and fellowship for the kids, chances to serve the community, and learning from a pastor who is a called teacher and shares his faith and candor.

As others have mentioned, Pastor Jon’s teaching, humor, warmth, and constant desire to know and share Christ’s Love are a tremendous attribute of this church.

The church building itself is gorgeous with its stained glass and architectural features. The bells that ring out from this church’s tower always make me smile at how tradition still has a place in the heart of this modern life.

While the services feel a little like a Drive-in Theater, now, (covid safety... and thank you for being safe!!) or an online video service, they won’t always.

The back of the sanctuary has traditionally held a rack of sacks of entertaining activities for little ones to bring to the pew which were one of the first ways we witnessed care for young families (pre-covid, mind you). This gesture made it possible for me to worship again (while parenting a rambunctious boy who seemed determined to make attending church quite difficult... I AM sorry to the nice lady in front of us at the Joliet church where he pointed at her infant and started yelling ‘Baby Jesus, Baby Jesus! ... and to the pastor who carried in the raised golden cross while my son pointed and yelled, “Mommy airplane? Airplane, Mommy?” again, I’m sorry... but the activity packs did the trick at this church (Whew!) The nursery option and Sunday school options help, too.

I have attended family movie nights, Easter breakfasts, Vacation Bible School, online book studies, and found connections to God and his people at this church. The nostalgic musical puppet shows with tongue-in-cheek themes (like how Jesus was ‘born in a barn’ too, Mom!) and the beautiful music from the praise team, choir, bell choir, organ/piano and others who share gifts help raise a new song to the Lord.

I love this church... my only wish is that they were closer to home... but worth the trip!

I absolutely love this church! I've been going here for quite a while and I cant get enough of it. They have several fun events and F5 for the youth. Pastor Jon is the best! This is the place to be when it comes to church.

Our grandson was married there this afternoon. Pastor John did a beautiful service.

Pastor Jon is the best. The atmosphere of the church is incredible (in a good way)!
