  The museum is a wonderful snapshot of early-to-mid 20th century eccentricity. Hammond became enormously wealthy following the patents he received for things you and I use every day. He had an interest in medieval history and amassed a sizable collection of historical artifacts which are housed in the museum. It seems financial support is waning and the requirements of preserving the place as Hammond left it clash with proper preservation over all and this is sad. I would HIGHLY encourage people to visit and donate to this extremely interesting piece of history.

  Impressive medieval castle on beachfront property. All kinds of 15th century European artifacts in a large building copying a variety of European castles. Docent guided tour of the house is recommended. That Hammond guy was brilliant .... and maybe somewhat crazy. (Heck, what sane person would spend that much to have his own castle?)

  We did one of their candlelight tours which was a fun experience. I went in thinking the whole place would be lit up solely by candles which would have been very cool. But in reality there's a lot of lighting during the tour. But it was still fun to be there at night and hear all about the Hammonds (and dodge a couple of bats that were flitting around). The tour leader did a nice job painting a picture of John Hammond's eccentricity. If I did it over again, I'd just do the normal tour during the day so that there was more time to explore parts of the museum in more depth on your own. That would also leave more time to check out the beautiful view out to the ocean from the grounds.

  Great tour! $14 adult and $10 for seniors. It was worth every penny. Our guide painted the perfect picture of John Hammond and the castle. I would definitely recommend and it's completely worth the trip.
