Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum

In a city with so many big name museums, the cooper Hewitt Smithsonian design museum was one I left "for next time" time after time. Finally this trip I decided to skip the crowded tourist filled museums for the smaller ones and this one did not disappoint. Wonderfully put together shows with great information cards. they also have a lovely garden to rest during your visit.

The best part of the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Museum is the chance to go inside and gawk at Andrew Carnegie's beautiful mansion that was built in 1902. The museum itself has temporary exhibitions that may or may not be of interest to the average museum goer. Don't miss the garden area and a chance to spin on the "Spun Chairs" designed by Thomas Heatherwick. And be sure to take a walk in the surrounding Carnegie Hill Historic District to see other amazing architecture in the area.

After visiting the disappointing Solomon Guggenheim Museum a few blocks away, this museum deserves all five stars! You can expect a timely visit (around an hour) to look through different selections of interesting artifacts, fashion displays, and art works. The interactive touch-screen tables allow you to design 3D buildings and objects, which was super fun even for adults. The interior wood architecture presented a warm feeling of historical Upper-East Side buildings that we see in movies! The garden was well kept and was the perfect way to finish the visit as you can exit from there directly!

The Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum is the definitive museum that showcases the culture and quality of decorative and design art.

The museum is currently located at 5th Ave on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in the Carnegie Mansion, a historic home that was once the residence of Andrew Carnegie, a pioneering steel industrialist and prominent philanthropist.

In June of 2021, I brought my wife and myself for a visit to Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum. During our visit, my wife and I had the chance to view the exhibit on the works of Will Smith, a prominent 1980’s African American fashion designer that achieved great success on producing and selling elegant style clothing for men and women with natural based fabrics.

In addition, my wife and I also enjoyed viewing and taking pictures of the various gorgeous objects that were designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany.

If you appreciate beauty, creativity and elegance at its finest, then you should definitely visit and tour the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum!!!
