My mother has been at St. Francis for several years and I could not imagine a better home for her. The care is excellent and the place is always spotless. The sisters who run it are always there and she loves the daily Mass. My mom has made some great friendships, she loves going to activities and she even says the food is, “just like homemade.” We are so lucky to have this hidden treasure in San Antonio! If you are looking for a place you will feel truly comfortable leaving your loved one look no further.
My Dad has been there almost 2 years and is still there. Even though he is declining in health and headed for that ultimate end, they are always looking for ways to make him comfortable. As with all nursing homes, some CNAs are better than others. The nursing staff there is very good and the Sisters truly care about the residents. Dad went for one entire year without going to the hospital, which is unbelievable. This was his 3rd nursing home. I have seen bad nursing homes and this one is not perfect, but they sure do strive to be perfect. No one there has ever gotten a bed sore as far as I know. It is always clean and never smells. They have church mass every day for those who want to attend. They also have enrichment activities for those who want to participate. My Father was in the Veterans home in Floresville for 3 months and it was the longest, worst 3 months of my life, and his. I heard they have new management at the Veterans home but still a lot of the old problems. St. Francis is still a very positive experience. I hope this helps those who are looking for a place for their loved one. As with all nursing homes, you need to visit at different hours and times so you can see what each shift is doing, including weekends. The biggest problem with all nursing homes, is the people getting dehydrated so always offer your loved ones water and bottled water just tastes better.. FYI....
My Dad spent his last few years in St Frrancis and they were wonderful. The Nuns that run the facility are a blessing to their residents and their families. The workers could not have be any nicer to my Dad as he slowly faded away. Examples of the place is that it does NOT smell like a nursing home, the food is good, and the other residents are cheery in the building. It shows the love of Christ in every way. It was so nice that when our Aunt needed a place, we waited for a place at St Francis.
