Great place with trails and fields spread out so people aren't on top of each other. Saw lots of wildlife in woods. Most bike/jog/walk trails are shady. Facilities are clean and portable toilet available at fields where no permanent facility is built. Lots of water fountains as well, large dog park is mulched with benches. Small dog area is small and looks like afterthought.
I love running here this park has by far the best dirt trails to me. But this park also has trails in which you could run with a stroller with no problem. There is also a dog park and I always manage to run into groups of deers (which seem harmless) thus far. Biking here is great as well.
Wish they still had camping spots, but otherwise it remains one of the more pleasant places to be in San Antonio. Cities should be judged by their parks. This one still retains a rustic quality to it. Hard to believe you're in a city when you find yourself here.
Also, it has a pretty nice dog park area. Dogs seem fairly comfortable letting their people roam around in this part off their leashes. Gates and fencing keeps the people well contained, so the dogs can mingle without much worry of their person wandering off.
I love McAllister park. I run the trails here two to three times a week and wouldn't trade them. While I can not speak to the team sports amenities, I can tell you that the miles of trails and the dog park are top draws. The only recommendation I have is to not come directly after a heavy rain as the water will sit on the trails. Other than that, keep your eyes open, there are so many things to see in this park.
One of THE best parks in San Antonio! Dog parks! Large fields to fly a kite, play soccer, baseball, have a special event, or watch the lunar eclipse! Playgrounds and picnic tables for the kiddos. Paved and unpaved trails for any level of athleticism, with lots of parts shaded by the beautiful trees. Do the blue trail for bikes or walk or run it to lose yourself in the spring blooms. 5ks can be seen taking place here. Deer roam freely and if you’re lucky, you’ll see an armadillo too! Best part: Park Police is visible and it’s safe to run alone in.
