Website and social media front is extremely informative. Quality information placed there by this staff. Were I ever to visit the area, this would be one of my first stops.

We made a day trip to Stephen City from Washington, DC to learn about the Black History in Stephen City. I had read on line in Wikipedia one line about a “Freed Black Village” one mile east of Stephens City in the 1850s. I couldn’t find anything else about this phenomenon on line, so we made the trip to the source. Rick, a full time employee of the museum immediately knew what I was asking about and began to tell us all about this pre Civil War Free Black Civilization. He knew exactly where it had been located. Rick had concentrated on Black History as part of his degree!!! Perfect!!!
So, we asked about more history in the town after perusing the museum artifacts and displays. Rick told us that our $2.00 admission also got us into 2 other buildings in town if we had the time to tour them with him... !!! Of course we had the time!
So, this day/field trip from Washington was well worth it. If you are into history/Black History you need to take this trip and get the story from a well read and enthusiastic professional at the Stephen City Museum!
Then take a ten minute drive to Winchester and have a stroll down the pedestrian mall and get something to eat.
    Enjoy!
